We are a profession-based national Not for Profit organisation for the Ballroom dancing industry in Australia, and a founding member of the World Dance Council. As a peak body for dance teaching organisations, dance studios, clubs and centres, our qualifications and gradings are recognised worldwide.

Established in 1932, the Australian Dancing Board is the national administrative and regulatory body for the Ballroom Dancing profession in Australia. For both social and competitive dancers, our goal is to promote the health benefits, lifestyle benefits, fun and enjoyment that ballroom dancing offers, and to ensure that everyone in Australia has an inclusive pathway into the world of dance.

We are a foundation member of International Council of Ballroom Dancing (ICBD) which is now the World Dance Council (WDC). We are also a member of the Asian Pacific Dance and Dancesport Council (APDDC), and the world Artistic Dance Federation (WADF). 

We are a profession based organisation, and our member societies include the Commonwelath Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD), the Society Association of Teachers of Dancing (SATD), the British Dance Association (BDA), and the Dance Masters International  Association (DMIA). 

In our regulatory capacity we are responsible for the development and grading system for the ADB Competition League and our qualifications and gradings are recognised worldwide.

Dance teachers registered with member societies of the Australian Dancing Board hold teaching qualifications acquired by examination. Registered teachers should display their qualifications or produce them upon request.Teachers of dance present classes in registered studios, social clubs, evening colleges, schools and various other venues throughout Australia.

In 2018 we introduced the ADB new vision for the dance profession, which includes direct memebership and board representation for member dance studios and clubs. Each state now appoints one director and one alternate director to represent studio and club members on the national board.
